Birds of a feather flock to Farm Credit

To work at Farm Credit is to develop a sense of understanding and appreciation for all farmers. For most employees, this can’t be taught or trained – it’s an instinct. Consistent with the old saying, “Birds of a feather flock together” the folks that work at Farm Credit are some of the very best ag advocates and understand the importance of providing support to our rural communities.

We are proud to recognize one of our own, retiree Kenny Bounds, as a Fresh Perspectives Top 100 Honoree.

Kenny worked for Farm Credit for 38 years, retiring at the end of 2015. During this time, Kenny set an example for the rest of us through his dedication to being a strong farmer advocate. In addition to being a regular fixture in legislative offices and local meetings, he is a past president of the Delmarva Poultry Industry and helped to establish the Maryland Agricultural Resource Based Industry Development Corporation.

Within our own realm, Kenny was instrumental in creating our StartRight program that was especially designed to help young, beginning, small, minority, and veteran farmers obtain financing, mentoring, and educational opportunities. Since the program started in 2008, MidAtlantic has loaned more than $165 million to farmers in this community.

“Being able to help farmers achieve their dreams, to buy their first farm, to save a farm after adversity, are the most rewarding things imaginable,” Kenny says.

Kenny was also recognized earlier this year and was honored with the Delaware Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service to Agriculture.

We are so proud of Kenny and the service he’s provided to us both at work, and in the field.

Please help us congratulate Kenny in the comments below!
