If you think your insured crops have been damaged, if you want to replant acreage, or if you want to put acreage of an insured crop to another use; please be aware of the following instructions to allow for proper claim processing:
-
Contact your crop insurance agent promptly when damage occurs.
-
If you think your harvested yield will be less than your insurance guarantee for MPCI or trigger yield for CRC, have your agent turn in a claim at least 15 days before harvesting. If harvest has started, contact your agent immediately. Leave representative sample strips of the damaged acreage at least 10 feet wide across the field for each 20-25 acres for a crop insurance adjuster to inspect.
-
Do not destroy or put acreage of an insured crop to any other use (such as chopping for silage or bailing) until consent is given by the company.
-
If your coverage includes a replant provision, the company must make an inspection and give consent before you replant. Corn, grain sorghum, soybeans, dry beans, sugar beets, and sunflowers are eligible for replant payments. To qualify, you must replant 20 acres or 20% of a unit's acreage, whichever is less.
-
The adjuster will verify that a separate acceptable record has been kept for each insured unity and for any uninsured acreage. Records must either be by weight or measurable grain in bins. Bin markings on separate units are permissible only if they are dated and signed by a neutral third party (neighbor, insurance agent, trucker) and authorized by the company. A summary of unweighed loads is not acceptable documentation for claims.
-
The crop adjuster will verify the number of acres in each unit and your insurable interest in the crop.
